Stanton Could Return to Outfield Saturday fir the Yankees

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Giancarlo Stanton may make his first outfield start since September 14, 2023, when the Yankees face the Houston Astros on Saturday at Yankee Stadium. Stanton, who has been working in the corner outfield spots over the past week, would start against left-hander Framber Valdez.

Recent Playing Time and Injury History

Stanton has not started a game since Monday against the Texas Rangers. Aaron Judge assumed designated hitter duties the next day while managing a right flexor issue, and Boone limited Stanton’s outfield appearances after Judge was placed on the injured list on July 26. Stanton missed most of the season’s first half due to injuries to both elbows and has a history of lower-body injuries that have reduced his time in the field.

Performance Since Return

Since returning on June 16, Stanton has posted a .268 batting average, .340 on-base percentage, and .528 slugging percentage, with 10 home runs and 28 RBIs in 37 games. In his last 27 games, he has gone 11-for-26 (.423) with 17 RBIs when batting with runners in scoring position.

Manager’s Assessment

Boone said Stanton has looked good in workouts and has been honest in assessing his readiness. Outfield coach Luis Rojas noted that Stanton’s performance in the field has improved throughout the week. Boone added that if Stanton finishes his current work without issue, he is expected to play in the outfield on Saturday.

Nike Officially Launches Ja 3 ‘NY vs. NY’ in New York City

A Signature Drop Tailored for the Five Boroughs

On July 22, 2025, Nike officially launched the highly anticipated Ja 3 ‘NY vs. NY’, putting New York City at the center of its latest signature sneaker release. The drop, part of the Ja Morant line, was made available exclusively to select Nike members via the SNKRS App — but only for those who reside in NYC and had previously entered launches for NY vs. NY product.

This hyperlocal rollout underscores Nike’s continued investment in NYC’s streetball legacy, tying the product directly to the players and communities who keep city basketball culture alive year-round. While not all eligible users were selected, those who were received a limited-time opportunity to purchase the sneaker through the app.

Foot Locker’s 34th Street Flagship Hosts One-Day-Only Celebration

The launch was preceded by a high-energy event on July 21 at Foot Locker’s iconic 34th Street flagship location. A day ahead of the official drop, the space transformed into a celebration of city hoops and sneaker culture. Attendees were treated to a full experience that included a Pop-A-Shot tournament, live DJ sets, giveaways, a photo booth, and a mystery guest appearance that added to the excitement.

The event drew a strong turnout from New Yorkers eager to be part of the action. Early buyers were rewarded with a gift with purchase, adding a layer of exclusivity to an already limited release.

Performance Meets Street-Ready Style

The Ja 3 ‘NY vs. NY’ brings a refined edge to Morant’s growing sneaker line. The low-profile design reflects his fast-paced game, while the exaggerated claw-mark details and deeper lateral grooves evolve the aesthetic seen in the Ja 1 and Ja 2.

Built with full-length ZoomX foam for elite energy return and a newly engineered rubber outsole for enhanced grip, the Ja 3 is designed for explosive moves — perfect for both the hardwood and the city’s legendary asphalt courts. The upper’s breathable mesh, reinforced synthetics, and midfoot strap offer lockdown support without the weight.

New York as the Centerpiece of the Rollout

Nike’s decision to tie the Ja 3 ‘NY vs. NY’ release directly to New York underscores the city’s unmatched impact on basketball and sneaker culture. From Harlem’s Rucker Park to the courts of Coney Island, the city remains a proving ground for hoopers and tastemakers alike. By making the launch exclusive to NYC residents — both digitally and physically — Nike reaffirmed its connection to the streets that helped build the brand’s global identity.

Looking Ahead to the Ja 3 ‘Light Show’

With the ‘NY vs. NY’ now in the hands of lucky NYC members, Nike is keeping the momentum going. The next colorway in the line, the Ja 3 ‘Light Show’, is set to drop on August 5. Featuring a white and grey base accented with vibrant volt-blue, pink, orange, and purple, the sneaker is as bold as Ja Morant’s playstyle — and is expected to make just as much noise.

A Moment for NYC Sneakerheads

The Ja 3 ‘NY vs. NY’ launch was more than a product release — it was a celebration of New York’s role in shaping the culture. Between the exclusive SNKRS access and the immersive event on 34th Street, Nike once again showed that when it comes to basketball, fashion, and energy, New York City sets the tone.

New York Liberty to Build $80M Training Facility in Brooklyn, Ushering in a New Era for Women’s Sports

The reigning WNBA champions, the New York Liberty, are setting a new standard for excellence in women’s sports—both on and off the court. The team has announced plans to construct a cutting-edge $80 million practice facility in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, overlooking the Manhattan skyline. Spanning 75,000 square feet and projected to open in 2027, the facility will be one of the most advanced in professional women’s basketball. This landmark investment is about more than just square footage—it’s a declaration of the Liberty’s long-term commitment to their players, their fans, and their city.

Set against a view of New York’s iconic skyline, the new facility will serve as a beacon of progress in women’s sports. The project is privately funded by the team’s ownership group, ensuring complete creative control over the design and programming. For the New York Liberty, this facility will offer more than just a home court for practice. It will serve as a year-round hub for training, recovery, strategy, and team building. The Liberty’s players—already among the league’s most elite—will now have a training environment that reflects their world-class talent and ambitions. “We are a player-first organization and investing in health and wellness has always been a priority for us,” said Clara Wu Tsai, Governor of the New York Liberty. “The New York Liberty deserve a facility of their own: one that reflects their tremendous talent, work ethic, and ambition. This facility is a sign of our commitment to the team, to the city of New York, and to the advancement of women’s sports.”

Brooklyn Roots, Global Vision

Brooklyn has become the heartbeat of Liberty Nation, and this facility will deepen the team’s presence in the borough. Since moving their home games to Barclays Center in 2020, the Liberty have embraced Brooklyn as their own—and the borough has embraced them right back. Now, the team is giving back in a major way. By anchoring the practice facility in Greenpoint, the Liberty are investing not only in their players, but in the surrounding community as well. The development is expected to generate jobs, provide new opportunities for local businesses, and create a ripple effect of investment and activity throughout the neighborhood. More than just a team headquarters, the facility is being designed with the broader Brooklyn and New York City community in mind.

A Visionary Facility for a Championship Team

The training center is expected to feature a full-size basketball court, state-of-the-art strength and conditioning spaces, sports science and recovery areas, film rooms, nutrition-focused dining, and team meeting rooms. It will also offer private locker rooms, wellness spaces, and administrative offices—bringing the entire Liberty ecosystem under one roof. In addition, the facility is being designed to host youth programs, clinics, and community events, making it an accessible and inclusive space that uplifts the next generation of athletes and fans. This investment reinforces the Liberty’s ongoing efforts to redefine what’s possible in women’s sports. At a time when female athletes are demanding—and receiving—greater equity and visibility, the Liberty are showing what commitment truly looks like.

The Clara Wu Tsai Effect

Much of the Liberty’s renaissance can be attributed to the leadership of Clara Wu Tsai, who—along with her husband Joe Tsai—has been a driving force behind the team’s transformation. Since acquiring the Liberty in 2019, the Tsais have revitalized the franchise, assembled a championship-caliber roster, and helped push the WNBA into a new era of growth and innovation. Wu Tsai’s vision for the team has always been rooted in excellence, empowerment, and equity. With this facility, she is turning that vision into a physical space that embodies those values. “This is more than a building—it’s a legacy project,” said Wu Tsai. “It’s about investing in women, investing in our city, and creating a world where female athletes are given the same respect, resources, and recognition as their male counterparts.”

Community Impact Beyond the Court

The Liberty’s new home base will not exist in a silo. The team plans to build meaningful community engagement into the facility’s foundation. From youth basketball clinics and mentorship programs to job training and health initiatives, the center will be a space for both inspiration and opportunity. The Liberty’s mission extends well beyond winning games—they’re working to transform what a professional sports team can mean to a city. By providing access, visibility, and resources, they’re creating pathways for young women and underserved communities to engage with the game and imagine bold futures of their own.

Setting the Standard for the WNBA and Beyond

As women’s sports continue to gain momentum across the globe, the Liberty are positioning themselves at the forefront of this movement. With this new practice facility, they’re not just building a home—they’re building a model for what the future of women’s professional sports can and should look like. At a time when calls for equality in pay, facilities, and media coverage are louder than ever, the Liberty are responding with action. Their investment sends a clear message: women athletes deserve the best—period.

By planting this flag in Brooklyn, the New York Liberty are not only creating a home for champions, they’re also creating a destination for dreamers, doers, and future legends. And in doing so, they’re making sure the next generation of athletes doesn’t just rise—they soar.

Player Responses

“I am grateful to be a part of an organization who recognizes the power of investment in their players, and ensures we have everything we need to be at top of our game at all times,” said Sabrina Ionescu, Liberty guard. “It was amazing to sit down with Populous and walk through what is most important to us as athletes to be successful in all aspects of our lives. This facility is a massive next step for the New York Liberty.”

Back-to-Back Matchups with Washington

This marked the second meeting in three nights for the two teams. The Knicks (23-10) triumphed on Saturday in a high-scoring overtime thriller, edging out the Wizards 136-132 behind Jalen Brunson’s season-high 55 points.

Wizards Face Challenges with Injuries

The Wizards (5-25) struggled without their leading scorer, Jordan Poole, who missed his second game due to a bruised left hip. While Kyle Kuzma returned to action after a 12-game absence with a rib injury, Washington relied on Jonas Valanciunas, who matched his season-high with 22 points, along with Alex Sarr and Malcolm Brogdon, who each contributed 18 points.

A frightening moment occurred in the third quarter when rookie guard Bub Carrington fell backward, colliding with a Knicks player’s knee and hitting his head on the court. Carrington exited in a wheelchair and was diagnosed with a post-traumatic headache.
