New Rochelle, NY – Junior Elijah Buchanan (Bronx, NY / Woodstock Academy (CT)) scored nine of his career-high 26 points over the final six-plus minutes to lead Manhattan to a decisive 77-70 win over Iona at the Hynes Center.
With the score knotted at 64-64 with 6:42 to play, Buchanan drilled a pair of free throws, before hitting a driving layup on the following possession to give the Jaspers a four-point cushion.
Iona would continue to battle to fight and trailed by two late, before Buchanan put the nail in the coffin with a step-back three pointer that increased the lead to 75-70 with 1:30 to play.
Buchanan also grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds in posting his first career double-double, while also handing out a career-best seven assists.
Junior Warren Williams (Kingston, Jamaica / St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ)) also notched a double-double, scoring 12 points with 10 rebounds in registering his MAAC-best fifth double-double. Classmate Ant Nelson (New York, NY / Seton Hall) matched Williams with 12 points, and junior Samir Stewart (Fort Lauderdale, FL / American Heritage) added 11 to round out the double-figure scorers for Manhattan.
